Chinmaya Dunster 於1954年出生在英國東南部的KENT州，他的父親是一個出色的藝術家
而且多才多藝，將他們的家營造成一個恍若16世紀的田園世界--美麗的蘋果園、農莊、
森林和飛澗流水。Chinmaya Dunster 就是在這樣優美的環境裡慢慢長大。在先後主修過
藝術課程和做過農場工人之後，Chinmaya Dunster 開始對水彩畫和西班牙六弦琴產生了
濃濃的興趣，並且開始了他的從阿富汗到印度的詩意般的流浪旅行。在遊歷了喜瑪拉雅
、伊斯蘭卡、泰國和日本等地之後，1979年的一次 NEW DELHI 的通宵音樂會改變了
Chinmaya Dunster 的一生。
那個晚上，他聽見了一種他從未聽過的絕妙的樂音，這是來自古代印度北部的一種撥弦
樂器SAROD，由19根弦做成的類似班卓琴一樣的印度道統樂器。而演奏家正是世界著名的
SAROD音樂家Amjad Ali Khan。三年之後，Chinmaya Dunster 辭掉了倫敦的藝術教授的
工作前往印度終於成為了Amjad Ali Khan的門徒，學習SAROD的演奏。
Chinmaya Dunster 決定用接下來的13年的時間來學習印度的道統音樂，同時他在倫敦結
識了一支融合了東西方音樂的樂隊 Terra Incognita。於是 Chinmaya Dunster 開始和
他們合作，嘗試推出極富印度風情的音樂作品。從1990年開始，Chinmaya Dunster 在
Nightingale唱片公司和 New Earth 唱片公司陸續推出了唱片，發表了融會了印度音樂
和拉格音樂的唱片，
從而享譽世界，成為了重要的心靈音樂家。
Chinmaya Dunster 的音樂擴充了心靈音樂的內涵，挖掘出印度博大的道統文化中的
音樂結晶，令這種以「佛」為哲學的音樂傳遍世界，也令這種歸依平靜崇尚自然的哲學
隨音樂遠行，
影響許多居住在不同地區的人們。
Chinmaya Dunster was born in Kent, England in 1954. After attending Art
College, he travelled through Afghanistan to India. There he heard a
performance by the world-famous sarodist Amjad Ali Khan and instantly fell in
love with the sarod (a nineteen-stringed, banjo-like Indian classical
instrument.) Three years later, while teaching art at a school in London,
he became a student of Amjad Ali Khan』s leading disciple. Chinmaya dedicated
the next thirteen years to the study of Indian classical music on the
sarod, both in London and at the Osho Commune in Pune, India. Chinmaya
Dunster and his Celtig Ragas Band at Paul McCartney』 wedding. Since 1990
Chinmaya has released 13 CDs on New Earth Records and Malimba Records. In
2002 Sir Paul McCartney invited him to perform at his wedding in Ireland.
Chinmaya is currently working on a new CD for New Earth Records from his home
in Goa, India, based mainly on the sarod. It promises to become a
meditative musical journey into the experience of living in harmony with
nature.
